Art&Seek Jr: Weekly Adventures Just for Kids (And Their Entourage)

by Therese Powell 13 Mar 2012 2:00 PM

Come give a mouse a cookie and look for the wild things this Friday as the Dallas Museum of Art hosts a variety of events as part of its Late Night at the Dallas Museum of Art event.

CTA TBD

Art&Seek Jr. is one mom‘s quest to find activities to end the seemingly endless chorus of the “I’m Bored Blues” while having fun herself.  Impossible you say? Check back on Tuesdays for kid-friendly events that are fun for adults, too.

If you’re a parent and I say to you…”if you give a mouse a cookie…”, I’d bet money you’ll probably shoot back immediately with, “he’s going to be thirsty and want a glass of milk.”  Who would have thought that you–someone who was super cool and hitting all the hot spots in Dallas less than 10 years ago–could now recite the words to a children’s book (and probably the Wonder Pet’s theme song) without even blinking?  Yep. It’s true. Your cool card is about to be revoked at any moment.  But wait! Great news!  Here’s the chance for the kids to meet a rock star in children’s literature and for you to get your cool card renewed at the uber-cool Dallas Museum of Art.  Laura Numeroff, author of (you guessed it) If You Give a Mouse a Cookie will be at the Horchow Auditorium at the DMA this Friday. Laura will discuss her successful If You Give… series and also talk about her latest book, The Jellybeans and the Big Art Adventure. Later, she’ll sign two books brought from home and any books bought at the DMA Museum Store

After the kids get their books signed you can take a walk on the wild side as the DMA explores the classic children’s book Where the Wild Things Are through readings, performances, tours, family activities, and films throughout the museum as part of its Late Night at the Dallas Museum of Art event. Be on the lookout for an appearance by a Wild Thing!

If the kids are still wired and wanting more, finish the evening up with some live music in the Atrium.  Fort Worth pop band, Calhoun will perform their root-rock and alt-country style of music.  They don’t go on until 10 p.m., but hey, it’s Friday and all the cool kids stay up late to hang at the DMA, right?
