Thursday Morning Roundup

by Stephen Becker 8 Mar 2012 7:47 AM

Today in the roundup: Reviewing Million Dollar Quartet, local music bits and a tour of the Woodall Rodgers deck park.

CTA TBD

FOUR ON THE FLOOR: Million Dollar Quartet is currently playing the Music Hall at Fair Park. The show re-creates the night when Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins and Johnny Cash hung out and played music together in Memphis’ Sun Studios. “Chuck Mead’s arrangements and Eric Schaeffer’s direction are top drawer, as are the performances,” Perry Stewart writes on theaterjones.com. Meanwhile, Mark Lowry calls the show, “a raucous good time, especially with performers as talented as this crew,” in his dfw.com review. Lawson Taitte wasn’t quite as impressed, though, writing in his dallasnews.com review that while the performers offer convincing imitations, the show is “slick and gaudily overdone.” Judge for yourself through March 18.

MUSIC BITS: You probably haven’t heard of Fort Worth/Denton’s Mind Spiders, but with a new album and a high-profile SXSW showcase coming up, you soon will. (fwweekly.com) … With a new album, Nervous Curtains draws a distinction from its Paper Chase past. (Front Row) … Need help deciding who to see at 35 Denton. Here are some picks. (DC9 at Night)

A SNEAK PEEK: Can’t wait for the Woodall Rodgers deck park to open? Take a virtual tour.
