ABOUT LAST NIGHT: Radiohead played the American Airlines Center Monday night in one of the more hotly anticipated shows of the year. So will the reviews be breathless or totally breathless? Let’s see. “It was another great show from one of the world’s most precisely good bands,” Nick Rallo writes on DC 9 at Night, calling the band a, “wildly expert and percussive experience.” Preston Jones was also happy to be there. “The framework may have been radically altered, making these events less like traditional concerts and more like evenings spent wandering about art museums, but underneath all of the idiosyncrasies, Radiohead remains, at its core, a rock band without peer,” he writes on dfw.com. “Having fashioned success on its own terms, these fearless Brits continue plowing ahead, injecting ever more new and wonderful sights and sounds into the rock lexicon.”
SPACE EXPLORATION: The University of North Texas Art Gallery has turned over its space to St. Louis artist Jill Downen for a site-specific project called “Dust and Distance.” Downen explores the relationship between people and the spaces they inhabit. And she has hopes that her work could have far-reaching effects. “I think, holistically, it could improve human health,” she tells dentonrc.com. “Our culture is too fast, too loud, and if we paid attention to architecture, we could address the way we live. Architecture meets the need for shelter, but architecture could be so much more.”
QUOTABLE: “One of my main focuses is sourcing and signing artists, and I handpick every single one as if I am getting the opportunity to customize my next child. ‘I want a blond-haired girl with curls and a small button nose.’ You get the idea.”
