Monday Morning Roundup

by Stephen Becker 27 Feb 2012 7:52 AM

Today in the roundup: A local Oscar winner, a local dancer to know and a Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge blowout.

CTA TBD

AND THE OSCAR GOES TO: Congratulations to former longtime Dallasite Brandon Oldenburg, who, with William Joyce, took home the Academy Award for animated short for their The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore. The short was produced by Shreveport’s Moonbot Studios, where Oldenburg is now based. If the title of their film sounds familiar, maybe it’s because you saw it – and the accompanying app – when Oldenburg demoed it at last year’s VideoFest. He told me all about it a few days before his appearance.

BRIDGE BLOWOUT: If you missed the Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge special section that appeared in Sunday’s Dallas Morning News, it’s got a pretty hefty online presence. Among the more arts-centric stories are one on the people creating the giant puppets for this weekend’s parade and a recap of the city’s love for starchitects.

A WOMAN TO KNOW: The CW 33 has a segment called Women to Know, and its most recent one profiles Dallas Black Dance Theatre dancer Katricia Eaglin. In the video, she talks about why DBDT is the company for her and tells the station, “It’s so fun, that sometimes I have to remind myself that`s my job.”
