Art&Seek Jr: Weekly Adventures Just for Kids (And Their Entourage)

by Therese Powell 14 Feb 2012 10:49 AM

Grab your kids and the pooch and head up to McKinney this Sunday for the 10th Annual Krewe of Barkus. A Mardi Gras dog parade and festival in Mitchell Park.

CTA TBD

Art&Seek Jr. is one mom‘s quest to find activities to end the seemingly endless chorus of the “I’m Bored Blues” while having fun herself.  Impossible you say? Check back on Tuesdays for kid-friendly events that are fun for adults, too.

Rose loves all animals but she’s ’round the bend nutty about dogs.  Her idea of a good time is to go to the dog park and play with the dogs–and we don’t even have a dog.  So the idea of dogs dressed up in costumes AND a parade is liable to make her little kid brain explode.  If you’re like Rose, then you won’t want to miss the 10th Annual Krewe of Barkus, in historic downtown McKinney this Sunday. An event patterned after the Mystic Krewe of Barkus in New Orleans where dogs and their people dress according to a theme–the theme this year by the way is, “All American Barkus: A Salute to Presidents, Pioneers, and Pawtriots”.  Don’t worry if you don’t have a dog , kids can enter their “All American” floats and join in the parade (sans dog) if they like.  The event is free but the cost for participants to enter the costume contest is $5 per dog and / or float, and pre-registration and confirmation is required to secure your spot. Besides the parade, there will also be vendors, festivities and shopping galore!
