Etta the Treasure is missed. Thanks for that. The Gregory Page was excellent, thanks for that as well, along with all the other good stuff I’ve never heard before. You might want to check out Shakey Graves @ http://shakeygraves.bandcamp.com/album/roll-the-bones … I like ’em all. “Roll the Bones” is a good example. Your eclecticism knows no bounds. Be it known your art is appreciated.

    Hi Paul. I am digging:

    U.S. Girls “Island Song”
    http://freemusicarchive.org/music/US_Girls/US_GIRLS_ON_KRAAK/The_Island_Song_

    Big Blood “She Sells Sanctuary”
    http://freemusicarchive.org/music/Big_Blood/Already_Gone_I/She_Sells_Sanctuary

I love the Cult’s original version of She Sells Sanctuary. The Big Blood cover caught my attention for a number of reasons, but the biggest was the altered lyrics. The opening line they use “The Texas sun makes my back burn” is miles away from the original “The heads that turn make my back burn.”

    • Anonymous

far out, I will investigate these leads this week, cheers

  • Thom

    How about:
    Neil Young – ‘Sugar Mountain’
Neko Case – ‘The Pharaohs’ from ‘Middle Cyclone’
    Definitely more Nick Cave
And maybe some Leonard Cohen, like ‘First we take Manhatten”
    Thanks Paul

I agree. There are many pieces of traditional and contemporary classical pieces that would be great to hear in this venue but may be too long. Edit away! I trust you.

Don’t know if you care at all for the Red Hot Chili Peppers. They’re not exactly off the beaten path but if you want perhaps Hump de Bump(My Ding A Ling made the cut so who knows?) might be worthy of an appearance or maybe Yertle the Turtle.

  • Hoppy

Went to Poor David’s last week to hear Mike Hearne and Marina Rocks opened for him…
    marinarocks.com

  • Paul in Dallas

    Elvis Presley’s “Little Sister”

  • EdBelly in Arlington

‘Twas good to hear the Etta James piece that opened the show.

Chris Thiele (once of Nickel Creek) pronounces his name THEE (with the “TH” as in “theater”) – lee.

For next time: how ’bout some Alabama Shakes? Some Carrie Rodriguez? Some Bill Frisell? Some Carrie Rodriguez & Bill Frisell on her Memphis live album? Something from “Dusty in Memphis”? Some Jessie Baylin?

  • Tim Elsner

I heard a brief mention during Art and Seek today that I’m seeking more details. Something about the filming of the movie “Giant”. Someone to discuss their experience…when and where?

  • a friend of mine just played me some Boney James off the Body Language album. Smooooth jazz sax. ahhhhh! sorry to admit I had not heard before….
