Art&Seek Jr.: Weekly Adventures Just for Kids (And Their Entourage)

by Therese Powell 17 Jan 2012 2:48 PM

We’re starting a new weekly feature to spotlight family-friendly events. Up first: Come join the Children’s Center at the downtown Dallas Public Library as they host a special event to celebrate Charles Dickens’ 200 birthday!

CTA TBD

Art&Seek Jr. is one mom‘s quest to find activities to end the seemingly endless chorus of the  “I’m Bored Blues” while having fun herself.  Impossible you say? Check back on Tuesdays for kid-friendly events that are fun for adults, too.

It makes my little heart so happy that I can finally get the word out about the Children’s Center downtown at the J Eric Jonsson branch of the Dallas Public Library. Besides the obvious of more books, DVDs and CDs than your kid could ever hope for (over  125,000), it also hosts some pretty cool events. One that caught my eye is A Charles Dickens Storytime on January 20. Who knew that Charles Dickens was celebrating the big 2-0-0?  Wow! That’s A LOT of candles.  The Children’s Center is honoring the birthday boy by inviting children’s author Mick Manning and illustrator Britta Granstrom to read, share stories and artwork from their new picture book, Charles Dickens: Scenes from an Extraordinary Life. The event is free and open to the public. For easy access to the second floor with minimal stroller hassle, be sure to use the underground parking.
