Wednesday Morning Roundup

by Stephen Becker 9 Nov 2011 7:31 AM

Today in the roundup: An update on the Kimbell expansion, local music bits and a chance to put your reading skills to good use.

CTA TBD

A KIMBELL UPDATE: If you’ve been over by the Kimbell Museum of Art lately, you know that construction on the expansion and new parking garage is in full swing. Most of the construction has been tough to see, so if you’re curious about what it looks like behind those temporary walls, check out this nbcdfw.com video.

MUSIC BITS: Dallas’ Von Ehrics are perfectionists, which explains why it took them 14 months to make their new album. (dallasnews.com) … Meet one of Dallas’ nicest bouncers. (DC9 at Night) … Willie Nelson will receive the Lone Star International Film Festival’s Stephen Bruton Award on Thursday. Preston Jones assesses the later part of his career. (dfw.com)

READ FOR THE KIDS: A look at the calendar shows that this Friday is 11-11-11. To mark the quirk, DISD is stopping down classes at 11:11 a.m. and allowing each student to read for 11 minutes. But some of those elementary school kids could maybe use a hand with some of those tougher words, so the district is seeking (you guessed it) 1,111 volunteers to help out. Unfortunately, the effort is falling short. However, it’s not too late to pitch in.
