Tuesday Morning Roundup

by Stephen Becker 23 Aug 2011 8:01 AM

Today in the roundup: Denton reports from New York International Fringe Festival, local TV notes and FW music bits.

CTA TBD

NOTES FROM NYC: Denton’s Sundown Collaborative Theatre scored quite the coup by getting into the New York International Fringe Festival. To chart the event, members of Sundown are blogging about their experiences over at theaterjones.com. The first entry, by Tashina Richardson, has been posted, in which she writes, “The thing I’ve most been struck by in the festival is that everything really seems to feel ‘fringe,’ and by that I mean rough around the edges.”

TV NOTES: We don’t touch on TV too often, but there are a few items with tangential local connections. First, Fort Worth’s Cameron Mitchell was named the fan favorite on The Glee Project, netting him $10,000 (but no guaranteed appearance on the show). And in other reality TV news, Carrollton’s Vanilla Ice is bringing his DIY Network show to Dallas for a remodeling job. If those two bits of news don’t get your motor revved, good for you – a new study has shown that watching TV can be hazardous to your health. (Surely there is some TV that is good for you?)

FW MUSIC NOTES: Fort Worth Weekly has a couple of tidbits, one good and bad. First, the good – the benefit concert for Lance Yocum of Spune Productions – who has recently suffered through a nasty bout of pneumonia, raised nearly $4,000. On the other end of the spectrum, singer-songwriter, Ryan McBride just had a whole trailer full of music equipment stolen.
