Tuesday Morning Roundup

by Stephen Becker 16 Aug 2011 7:48 AM

Today in the roundup: A Dallas actor joins the Final Destination series, St. Vincent strikes a pose for Spin and the DTC delivers the Bard for less.

CTA TBD

ALL ABOARD: Say what you want about the Final Destination series, but you can’t deny its box office success. The first four movies have combined to make more than $200 million domestically, and each of them made back their budgets and more. So that’s why we’re about to get the fifth installment this month. Joining the carnage will be Dallas actor Miles Fisher. The 28-year-old talks about what it was like to be suspended 200 feet above the water to film a major action sequence in the film in an interview with dallasnews.com.

STRIKE A POSE: Did you know that Spin has a style issue? Me neither, but it does. And when it needed a subject for its September cover, Dallas-native St. Vincent (a.k.a. Annie Clark) got the call. She tells the magazine that she wrote her upcoming album, Strange Mercy, in Seattle. “I would just get up in the morning and caffeinate, and run, and go to the studio for 12 hours, come back, eat dinner alone with a book, have a glass of wine, and go to bed. And do it all over again.” The issue hits newsstands Aug. 23.

SHAKESPEARE ON A BUDGET: Dallas Theater Center is continuing its tradition of opening its season with a Shakespeare work. This year, The Tempest will bat leadoff; previews start Sept. 9. And yesterday, the DTC sent word that the top ticket price for the run will be $25. Nice, right? Tickets go on sale Thursday. I would imagine you’ll be able to get them here.
