Hello, and welcome to August! That means the summer is wrapping up and everyone’s thinking about the fact that school is about to start. I, however, can’t help but think of one other thing – Legos. The Dallas Cityscape exhibit is on display at the Museum of Nature and Science through the end of the month, so make your plans to get out there or you will never get to say that you saw the Dallas skyline made entirely out of Legos. And I just can’t let that happen to you! There is also a mini Cowboys Stadium, and kids can learn about engineering as they build their own structures.

Speaking of learning, area libraries are starting to wrap up their summer programs, but not before the West Branch of the Irving Public Library has a Marionette Puppet Show. These particular puppets and the hands that guide them will be performing The Wizard of Oz for free on Tuesday. Also, make space for Zoonaversary at the East Branch of the Irving Library on Sunday, where kids of all ages can check out exotic rescue animals from South America.

Moving along … If you know what I mean when I say cult classic chainsaw hand movies from the 80s, then you are in for a big treat as Lakeside Community Theatre in The Colony performs Evil Dead: The Musical. The production should be a bit campy (like the movies). Expect songs with titles like “All the Men in My Life Keep Getting Killed by Candarian Demons.” That song title alone is worth the ticket price. Meanwhile, Snow White gets a facelift at Studio B in Highland Village The retelling of this classic has all kinds of music in it, from hip-hop to doo wop.

On the live music side of things, Arctic Monkeys perform tonight at the Palladium in support of their fourth album, Fort Worth indie rockers Telegraph Canyon take the stage Thursday at the 8.0 Lounge for the  KXT Music on the Square series, and an early 60s Beatles concert is re-created at Bass Performance Hall on Friday with 1964… The Tribute.

The doc takes a look behind the alt hip-hop group, was directed by Michael Rapaport and is an official Sundance Film Festival Selection for 2011. Have a great week!
