Thursday Morning Roundup

by Stephen Becker 28 Jul 2011 7:47 AM

Today in the roundup: Jubilee Theatre’s new artistic director discusses his first directing project, local music bits and our physical reactions to art.

CTA TBD

MORE ON TRE: Back in April, Jerome profiled new Jubilee Theatre artistic director Tre Garrett. And now we’re finally getting to see what the 30-year-old wunderkind can do as he’s directing the current production of Once on This Island. The show runs tonight through Aug. 21, and Garrett talks to theaterjones.com and dfw.com about his approach to the play and what he’s looking for for next season’s lineup.

MUSIC BITS: Get caught up on the latest from Astronautalis and Neon Indian with a couple of free downloads (DC9 at Night) … After tinkering with Spotify for a couple of weeks, Preston Jones is already hooked. (dfw.com) … Kings of Leon and Arctic Monkeys are each coming to town in the next few days. And they have something else in common – they both got past being The Next Big Thing to have lengthy careers. (dallasnews.com)

LET’S GET PHYSICAL: Have you ever felt a jolt of excitement while looking at a new piece of art? As it turns out, that sensation wasn’t just confined to your brain. New research shows that we actually do have physical reactions to art. So feel free to head to a museum and get that heart rate up.
