Lets get this party started. Any ideas for music for next weeks show?

  • Sandra

Dude, I LOVE that you are going to play the Knitters. You rock.

  • Russell

beautifully apropos selection to begin … Ella rules.

  • Joe Henley

Great start to the show. Ella than the Nighthawks I requested. Thank you so much. Maybe Rock Creek Park by the Blackbirds for next weeks show. Thanks again.

  • Sandra

Also, always up for the blasters

  • Paul Slavens

thanks yall. I came across that Ella tune and it was a no brainer.

  • Russell

Nighthawks doing Leo Kottke’s “Vaseline Machine Gun” is good … but I still like Leo’s version(s).

  • Joe Henley

Got this album when I was in college. Good choice.

  • James Lovell

Maybe a little Cadillac Jones would be cool. Like Tarzan or anything from The Big Takedown. They’re mostly instrumentals if you haven’t heard them already.

  • Russell

The Gourds. “All The Labor” … “High Highs and Low Lows”

  • Sandra

    Geez..show is so great..

  • Paul Muller

Thanks for turning me on to THE THE’S ‘Slow Emotion Replay’, a few weeks ago. I’ve replayed it quite a few times since.

Have you heard of 16 HORSEPOWER and their song ‘Black Soul Choir’?

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f-vpAn15-vE

Or perhaps their song, ‘Heel on the Shovel’?

  • Paul Slavens

16 Horsepower love em. havent played em for a while, they will be on next week.
    thanks for the nice comments!
I need music suggestions the way a zombie needs brains.

    Hey Paul,

Been a while. Got some relatively contemporary jazz suggestions for you. Could you play Thomas Chapin Trio’s “Equitoria (Live)”, from the album Insomnia? It’s 6:57, maybe a bit too long for your segments, but it’s definitely rewarding. Other tracks on the album are too long, but I highly recommend you check out the rest of that album. Those first three tracks blew me away first time I heard them, and still do.

If that’s too long for you, try playing “Railbread” by Ned Rothenberg Double Band in the album Real and Imagined Time (6:32). This one’s a bit more difficult to get a hold of, unfortunately. The first album I mentioned is available on iTunes.

You could even play both of them if you wish! Thanks man. Love your show as always.

  • Regan

    Thanks for Papa Legba.

    J.S.Bach:Partita No.1 Prelude

  • Russell

Thanks for the Joni … wishes for cooler climes.

Mayhap some Coco Robicheaux, e.g. his cover of The Chambers Brothers:

wonderful suggestions, I love getting classical music requests. cant always play them, but nice to know I am not the only one who likes a little ancient music thrown in.

    J. Paul:
Glad to hear the late Mort Garson represented, he released a very unusual LP in 1971 titled Black Mass Lucifer, interesting if you haven’t listened to it. Also, during this summer season something from UNT alumnus Marc Johnson, Summer Running, from the LP The Sound of Summer Running, great tune with Pat Metheny and Bill Frisell.

    PS Nice Joni Mitchell

    second the Bach

  • You will find real Moog on just about every track of my record “Metroplex Love Songs.” I recorded those songs while watching my Puerto Rican wife (from the Bronx) deal with the culture shock of life here. A neighbor with a legendary vintage synth collection let me pilfer through his gear. “Fort Worth Love Song’ was chosen as track one of the FW Music Co-op Vol 1 compilation, and we were just nominated in the FW Weekly Awards. According to someone over there, we are “effortlessly catchy.” You can get the record for free at sloanautomatic.com All the songs are about life in D/FW. There is a ton of Moog on the Tanya Tucker and Kelly Clarkson covers, as well. All the best. Your show makes me flip like I’m on the Shockwave, sincerely.

  • Paul Slavens

It is hard to find that Black Mass recording. But I got something coming for you here in a few minutes that is pretty out there.

  • Paul!

Listen to our tunes! love you’re show (that unthanks song was killer! I’m listening to it again now)

Dare I suggest another artist? Very 90s lo-fi, sweet sounding stuff. Belly’s “Gepetto” from the 1993 album Star. That was a good year for music it seems.

  • Yenny

how about some Quaker City Night Hawks. “Bible Black Lincoln” outta do…
    thanks. keep being awesome.

  • Paul Slavens

thanks for the suggestions. I will keep doing what I do if you will keep doing what your doing.

  • I loved hearing the Knitters & Homespun Remedies. If you’re in Dallas Tuesday, HRx will be at Good Records for a free in-store at Good Records on lower Greenville at 9 p.m. with Bravo, Max! at 8 p.m. and Amy Stroup at 7 p.m. It’s always all-ages, so bring kiddos!

  • Andrew

One of my favorite upbeat songs from the 60’s is “I Remember You” covered by Australian singer Frank Ifield. “I Remember You” was written in 1941 and first used in the 1942 movie, “The Fleet’s In”

  • P.S. If you’re into songs about astrological signs, try Harvey Sid Fisher

  • Paul Slavens

    thanks @andrew, looks interesting
I saw Harvey Sid perform, and met him. We confused each other.

  • Paul Slavens

Thanks for the nice suggestions and comments.
See you right here next week.
    xo

  • Paul,
another great show. Thanks. If only the rest of KXT local programming weren’t so “canned.”

  • Hello! I love the show. Just wanted to make a suggestion. Umphrey’s McGee. They are a rock/blues/funk/jamband out of Illinois. They are, in my opinion, the best band out there today. Very talented. I hope you like them.

  • Chip

Oh no, no playlist? I was out and about and missed who an instrumental piece was by right before the Unthanks. Shazaam failed me. Was counting on the blog playlist to fill me in.

    • Stephen Becker

      Chip –
We’re running a little behind today but we’re going to do our best to get it posted shortly.

  • Chip

Thanks, Stephen! Now I found the artist and title I wanted.

For Paul–I see you played a Menomena song from an Amazon digital sampler–Amazon has an unusual number of good (free) samplers on their site this month, including another Barsuk records one.
