UPDATE: We have a winner. But check back Thursday and Friday to enter to win more tickets and read more takes from teens.
On Monday, Plano West student Claire Charbonneau made her case for why teens may want to give classical music a shot. Today, it’s Charles Jin’s turn. Both Charles and Claire are members of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra’s Teen Council, which is sponsoring a special concert and series of events at the Meyerson Saturday. More about that right here.
Name: Charles Jin
Age: 17
School: St. Mark’s
How I got into classical music:
I started piano when I was 6. To be honest, wasn’t really into this classical music thing until I started exploring the different composers. There really is something for everyone.
Why you should give it a shot:
If you’ve never tried it, you’ll never know! Some of my personal favorites are the DSO Pops Series with Marvin Hamlisch. Great guy, a lot less formal, and a lot more fun. They’ll do your favorite broadway musical numbers, jazz nights, and a lot more than what you thought classical music was about. There are some composers who just aren’t my thing, so just because you don’t like all the music, doesn’t mean you won’t like some of it.
By the way, have you ever been in the Meyerson? Classiest place you’ll ever see.
Take Charles up on his challenge and enter to win a pair of tickets to this weekend’s concert below.
