Wednesday Morning Roundup

by Stephen Becker 18 May 2011 7:33 AM

Today in the roundup: The Arts of Collin County is still being discussed, Art Conspiracy wants you and new artist interviews.

CTA TBD

ACC UPDATE: Today’s update on The Arts of Collin County is … there is no update. After residents voted to revoke the city’s right to sell bonds to fund the project over the weekend, the Frisco City Council was supposed to discuss the matter at last night’s meeting. Instead, it chose to table the talk until June 7. Frisco Mayor Maher Maso tells dallasnews.com that the city needs to research its options, but, “Clearly, the Frisco voters have decided to revoke those bonds, so Frisco is not funding this project.” The Arts of Collin County board is going to talk about its options at a meeting today.

IT’S A CONSPIRACY: Circling back on a little nugget that I wasn’t able to get to last week – Art Conspiracy is looking for a beneficiary. You remember Art Conspiracy, right? It’s the very cool event held in the fall in which local artists create work in a day that is then auctioned off. Proceeds go to a local charity. If you’d like to be that charity, read up on how to apply and get that application in by June 6. While we’re talking about ArtCon, DC9 at Night talks music with Chelsea Callahan, who programs the bands for the event.

ART ON FILM: Our friends over at Art This Week have a couple of new videos on the site: an interview with Teresita Fernández and an interview with Adela Andea. You can see Fernández’s work in her FOCUS exhibit at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth. Andea’s work is up at Cris Worley Fine Arts in Dallas. While you’re over at artthisweek.com, check out the details on their big fundraiser on Friday.
