Hey hey, I am here and ready to hear your suggestions. Lemme have em.

  • Anna

I’ve really enjoyed listening to caravan palace lately. They have a gypsy robot sound. I dig it and I think you might as well!

  • Paul Slavens

thanks, I will check it all the way out.

  • John Coltrane- Say it Over and Over Again

  • You gonna play some Lenka anytime soon?

  • Andy

How bout some Phish, Tribe Called Quest, or Mur (old Dallas band, not sure if they’re still around)

  • Paul Slavens

John Coltrane John Coltrane John Coltrane John Coltrane John Coltrane John Coltrane John Coltrane

  • Paul Slavens

do you have a special Phish song to suggest. I am really not very familiar with their recordings.

  • Russell

Excellent as always, Paul … thank you.

    For your consideration:

Tom Waits – Take it With Me (from “Mule Variations”)

Gurf Morlix – Drums from New Orleans (from “Last Exit to Happyland”)

  • paul boll

One for Cornell Dupree? Very cool. Cowtown thanks you.

  • Thanks so much for playing Homespun Remedies!

  • Andy

They are a great jam band. very much jazz and bluegrass influenced. Try Cavern or Stash if you’ve never heard.

  • Yeah, I agree with you – Lenka and her keyboard stylings and choreography are a sweet delight, as many of her newfound fans at SxSW would agree. And since you asked, of course I could recommend something of hers – how ’bout this, off of the Jimmy Kimmel Show, if you can get it (I like it better than the album version): http://abc.go.com/watch/clip/jimmy-kimmel-live/SH005455790000/PL5520981/VD55123133/lenka—heart-skips-a-beat/moments.

Paul, did you know the guitarist on “Rainy Night In Georgia” was recently passed Fort Worth Guitarist Cornell Dupree? Maybe you know he died last Sunday night. He played with Aretha Franklin (was the guitarist on “Respect”), Miles, King Curtis (while Jimi Hendrix was in Curis’ band). Cornell did 2,500 sessions for Atlantic in the ’60s and ’70s.

  • Paul Slavens

Well fellas, I checked out young Lenka last week as per your suggestions. I wasn’t as fascinated as you seem to be although, she has a dimple the size of the grand canyon which was very appealing. I will however, give her another try.
    Cheers

  • Dana

Paul, you absolutely made my night, and my weekend, playing Genesis’ Time Table!! THANK YOU!!! I owe you, and whomever suggested you play it, a drink!! 🙂

  • Paul Slavens

I guess you missed me playing Respect and giving a FW shoutout to Cornell Dupree. Well, I did but thanks.

  • I love the dimple!

  • paul boll

yep, musta missed it … earlier in the show I guess.

  • I think Lenka may be best appreciated with video to go along with the audio – she puts some artistic effort into those, as she apparently does with her live shows too. But I think some of her songs can stand on there own. Thanks for at least checking her out – I thought the rest of your audience might like her. I’ll see if I can find some other songs of hers you might like.

  • Cliff Ring

    John Barleycorn must die

  • Liked the Brooke Benton earlier, especially for making me more familiar with Cornell Dupree’s work, which seems easy to overlook so smoothly does it blend in.

  • And just what exactly did John Barleycorn ever do to you, Cliff, to so incur your wrath?

  • Margaret

Miranda Sex Garden- Fairytales of Slavery, “The Monk Song”

  • Paul Slavens

John Barleycorn is a little bit long at 6:24 but we will see, I may just splurge.

  • Joseba

    Rodrigo y Gabriela – Tamacun

If you’re splurging on time, might I suggest Gumbo Variations?

  • Paul Slavens

Thanks for the company and the great suggestions. Hope to see you next week.

  • Really liked the Goldfrapp.

  • Andrew

Could you play my favorite song from Farrokh Bulsara? (September 5, 1946 – November 24, 1991) Farrokh Bulsara was born in Zanzibar Africa and grew up there and in India until his mid-teens and was a Parsi (Persian Zoroastrian). He was known for his flamboyant stage persona and powerful vocals over a four-octave range. Estimates of Farrokh Bulsara’s band total worldwide record sales have been set as high as 300 million. In 2005, a poll organized by Blender and MTV2 saw Farrokh Bulsara voted the greatest male singer of all time. In 2009, a Classic Rock poll saw him voted the greatest rock singer of all time. In 2008, Rolling Stone editors ranked him number 18 on their list of the 100 greatest singers of all time. Allmusic has characterized Farrokh Bulsara as “one of rock’s greatest all-time entertainers”, who possessed “one of the greatest voices in all of music”. In May 2009, Classic Rock Magazine voted Farrokh Bulsara as the greatest singer in rock. Farrokh Bulsara performed an estimated 700 concerts in countries around the world. Farrokh Bulsara’s final live performance with his band on August 9, 1986, drew an attendance estimated as high as 300,000.

You might know him as Freddie Mercury of Queen. My favorite song by Queen is “Who Wants to Live Forever?”

    Wonderful program as always!

  • Lawrence Sutheerland

Hey, Paul. Adele also sings for Anubian Lights. I’d love to hear something from them 🙂
