Friday Morning Roundup

by Stephen Becker 22 Apr 2011 8:06 AM

Today in the roundup: Onstage naughtiness from Second Thought, celebrating Jac Alder and a new music venue in Fort Worth.

CTA TBD

BUYER BEWARE: This weekend, Second Thought Theatre opens Red Light Winter, a play about two American men who meet up with a prostitute in Amsterdam. As you might guess, the show features lots of stuff you wouldn’t want the kiddos to see, so Second Thought has put together this video as a warning. If the play is half as entertaining as the video, we’re in for a treat. For more on the show, check out Front Row’s preview.

JUST JAC: Jac Alder has been enjoying a well-deserved moment in the spotlight lately. The Theatre Three artistic director is celebrating 50 years with the company and has been making the media rounds. (Jerome’s done both a KERA radio story about him and a Think TV interview with him.) For more from Alder, take a listen to a Theater Jones podcast interview with him.

LIVE IN FW: Fort Worth is getting a new live music venue. The Live Oak Music Hall will be the result of a renovation of an existing space and is scheduled to open in October. “I saw a need,” Bill Smith, who is overseeing the renovation, tells dfw.com. “I want to appeal a little quieter, a little more reserved crowd, with more expensive table seating and wait staff.” Expect a 1950s style lounge and a rooftop patio.
