Last week, when I ran into Cedric Neal at the Dallas Theater Center, he told me he was up for final auditions for Sportin’ Life in a new production/adaptation of Porgy & Bess. He didn’t get the role — but hey, he was cast as Frazier, the lawyer, TheaterJones reports, and is first cover for Sportin’.

There’s a fair amount of anticipation for this Porgy at Boston’s American Repertory Theatre because the Gershwin opera is being ‘re-imagined’ by the Pulitzer Prize-winning Suzan-Lori Parks (Top Dog/Underdog) and already features Tony Award-winner Audra McDonald.

Seems Cedric’s move to New York is already paying off.
