REMEMBERING DAVID: David R. Davidson left his mark on the local classical music scene during his tenure as director of the Dallas Symphony Chorus. And now he’s being recognized on a larger stage. Davidson, who died of cancer in 2009, is being honored this week through the American Choral Directors Association’s Wall of Honor. The Wall is reserved for, “those who are recognized on a national or international level and who have contributed immeasurably to the choral arts,” according to the Association. You can read more about it on the Dallas Symphony’s blog. And to hear more from the man himself, check out his late 2008 appearance on Think TV.
THE WORD FROM DENTON: Did you make it up to the 35 Conferette on Thursday? Or are you planning on going this weekend? Either way, our man Paul Slavens has been doing yeoman’s work interviewing artists performing at the festival. Check out his video interviews with Sarah Jaffe, The Hope Trust and a slew of other local and national acts on the Art&Seek YouTube channel.
THE HALF-WAY POINT: Artist Glenn Ligon is one of those artists who likes to dabble in a little bit of everything. And all of that collective dabbling has got the Whitney’s interest. The museum has put together the first mid-career retrospective focused on the conceptual artist, which will include about 100 paintings, prints, photographs, drawings, sculptures and other work. Why should you care? After showing at the Whitney (you can read the NYTimes on the show here) and stopping by the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, it will come to the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth early next year.
