What’s your favorite movie? What makes it work for you and why? At tonight’s installment of State of the Arts, we’ll find out what it takes to take an idea all the way to the screen and we’ll explore the behind-the-scenes world of filmmaking with two highly-respected members of the industry.
Our guests will include the amazingly prolific British composer George Fenton and filmmaker, filmanthropist, producer and Dallas Film Society Chairman Michael Cain.
George Fenton has composed the scores for more than sixty feature films, including Gandhi (with Ravi Shankar), Dangerous Liaisons, and The Madness of King George, and has collaborated with some of the most influential filmmakers of the late 20th century, but he actually started his creative career as an actor. Fenton’s in town to conduct the debut performance of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra’s Masters of Film Music Series this weekend.
Michael Cain is the president of M3 Films and leads the Dallas Film Society as its chairman. His film TV Junkie received the Special Jury Prize for Documentary Excellence at the 2006 Sundance Film Festival. Cain is currently preparing for the 2011 Dallas International Film Festival which receives thousands of submissions and screens about 200 films. It begins on March 31st.
