ARTS UP NORTH: The new Medical Center of Lewisville Grand Theater is set to open its doors this weekend. The $10 million facility features two theater spaces, a dance recital hall, an art gallery and space for classes. “We’re not looking at art for the elite but art for the people,” Lewisville spokesman James Kunke tells dallasnews.com. “There’s going to be something here that anyone can enjoy.”
AT THE NASHER: Have you checked out artthisweek.com yet? The North Texas website is dedicated to visual arts and posts video interviews with artists, curators and gallery owners. Its most recent video interview is with Nathan Carter, one of the artists participating in the Nasher Sculpture Center’s current show: “Alexander Calder and Contemporary Art: From Balance to Joy.”
DRUMMER NEEDED: Dallas Def Leppard tribute band Pyromania is looking for a drummer. They aren’t asking for much – you’ve got to have pro gear, including a “flame retardant kit & stick.” And, oh yeah – you can only have one arm, a la real DL drummer Rick Allen. Three cheers for authenticity!
