The American Institute of Architects has bestowed its prestigious Honor Award for Architecture on the Wyly Theatre. The theater is one of 10 structures so honored; others include the North Carolina Museum of Art and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art Rooftop Garden.

About the Wyly, which was designed by Joshua Prince-Ramus and Rem Koolhaas, the jury said, “This building is an expression of a totally new way to investigate the potential of performative experimentation – completely re-choreographed the way in which one experiences a theater.” Also: “It contributes to the skyline without being so tall – the façade and treatment of the exterior are quite interesting looking as an object in the city.”

If you haven’t made it to the theater yet … it’s gonna be a while before you can. The next Dallas Theater Center show is Arsenic and Old Lace, which will be performed at the Kalita Humpreys Theater. So you can either wait until Dividing the Estate in March or you can check out Sarah Jaffe or Big Bad Voodoo Daddy in February.
