Longtime North Texas author Linda Daugherty may well have had more productions of her children’s-and-teens’ plays than any other local playwright. She’s had stagings in more than 150 cities in 41 states — including productions at the Kennedy Center, the Edinburgh Festival and Atlanta’s Alliance Theatre. The playwright-in-residence at the Dallas Children’s Theater (where more than 20 of her works have premiered), Daugherty has recently written a series of dramas based on social and medical problems that teens may face — including dyslexia, eating disorders and bullying.

We talk to Daugherty about why she changed from adapting fairy tales for children, how to write so teens won’t dismiss your play and hard 2 spel dad, currently at the Dallas Children’s Theater, which Daugherty co-wrote with Mary Rhode Scudday.
