Monday Morning Roundup

by Stephen Becker 20 Dec 2010 7:04 AM

Today in the roundup: Better directions in the Arts District, a new high school theater award and a chat with Erik Parker.

CTA TBD

WHICH WAY TO WINSPEAR: I’d never really thought about the fact that if you’re new to the Arts District, it might be kind of confusing as to which building is which. That’s about to change. Two signs, each featuring high-definition video boards, will be placed near the Winspear Opera House and Wyly Theatre reports dallasnews.com. In addition to letting people know which building they are standing in front of, the signs will also offer previews of upcoming events.

FINDING THE FUTURE STARS: Lyric Stage in Irving has announced that it has developed the Jones & Schmidt Awards for High School Musical Theatre. The awards will honor the best work from schools in Dallas, Tarrant and Collin counties. For a list of participating schools and more on the songwriting team the award is named after, visit theaterjones.com.

THE ARTIST SPEAKS: San Antonio native Erik Parker is the subject of a Focus exhibition at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth. (Earlier this month, we pointed you to Gaile Robinson’s review). If you’ve seen the show and want to know more about Parker, you’re in luck – the This Week in the Arts podcast spoke with him for this week’s episode.
