North Texas' Classical Grammy Noms

Soprano Ava Pine — who apprenticed with the Dallas Opera, performed with the Fort Worth Opera and who’s coming back here next week for the Dallas Symphony’s Christmas Celebration — THAT Ava Pine was just nominated for a Grammy Award. She’s joined by two others with North Texas ties.

Soprano Ava Pine — who apprenticed with the Dallas Opera and the Dallas Bach Society, debuted with the Fort Worth Opera and who’s coming back here next week as a featured soloist in the Dallas Symphony Orchestra’s Christmas Celebration — THAT Ava Pine was just nominated for a Grammy Award. The Fredericksburg, Texas-born singer was nominated in the Best Opera Recording category for her performance in the serenade Marc Antonio e Cleopatra by the Baroque composer Hasse. The CD was made by Ars Lyrica Houston.

Also nominated was a recording by pianist Joseph Banowetz playing the Piano Concerto in D minor by Paul Kletzki. Banowetz currently teaches at the University of North Texas, while  Kletzki was principal conductor of the DSO from 1958 to 1961.

Grammy Award winners will be announced Feb. 13.
