Soprano Ava Pine — who apprenticed with the Dallas Opera and the Dallas Bach Society, debuted with the Fort Worth Opera and who’s coming back here next week as a featured soloist in the Dallas Symphony Orchestra’s Christmas Celebration — THAT Ava Pine was just nominated for a Grammy Award. The Fredericksburg, Texas-born singer was nominated in the Best Opera Recording category for her performance in the serenade Marc Antonio e Cleopatra by the Baroque composer Hasse. The CD was made by Ars Lyrica Houston.
Also nominated was a recording by pianist Joseph Banowetz playing the Piano Concerto in D minor by Paul Kletzki. Banowetz currently teaches at the University of North Texas, while Kletzki was principal conductor of the DSO from 1958 to 1961.
