Another fine video from Cindy Chaffin, who visited paper artist Tish Brewer in her studio. We’ll add this to our Artist Studio Tour.
Here’s what Cindy says about Tish:
“Tish Brewer is a book and paper conservationist. She has a masters degree from the Kilgarlin Center for Preservation of the Cultural Record at the University of Texas, Austin. By day, Tish runs the Center for Art Conservation taking on projects from restoring antique water-damaged paintings, to the mending tears and stains. In her free time she’s a paper artist, bookbinder and book artist, as well as a gardener and a cook.
Tish is one of the 150 artists who will create a piece of work Friday that will be auctioned off Saturday night at Art Conspiracy. The music is in the video is from Ishi, one of the bands that will perform.
The event costs $10 and it’s in a warehouse near the Belmont Hotel. You are, of course, invited. KXT’s Paul Slavens is your MC for the evening. Jerome, Stephen, Therese, Cindy and I, along with some intrepid volunteers, will be on hand, bringing back the Con Artist Gallery. So when you’re not watching bands or auctions, stop by, say hello and make a piece of art.
Did I say bands? Yes, in addition to Ishi, Seryn and Dem Southernfolkz will perform. Here’s a look at Dem Southernfolkz in their studio.
All of this has a point, of course. It’s to raise money. This year, funds from ArtCon go to Today Marks the Beginning.
