R.I.P S.R.V.: Twenty years ago today, Stevie Ray Vaughan, the pride of Oak Cliff, died in a helicopter crash. And it goes without saying that those who knew him, as well as music fans in general, haven’t forgotten Dallas’ guitar god. Dallasnews.com checked in with a few of his musical pals to mark the anniversary of his death. Robert Cray probably says it best: “His impact has been tremendous. I get tired of hearing all these guitar players trying to copy Stevie. Every time I hear somebody copy him I say, ‘Yeah, but you’re not Stevie.’ “

STEP BY STEP: If there’s a more technically demanding production to pull off than Alfred Hitchcock’s The 39 Steps, I can’t immediately think of it. The script calls for four actors to stay in constant motion as they play about 100 characters. Stage West opens the show this weekend, and fwweekly.com quized the show’s director, Jim Covault, about how he’s making it all work. As it turns out, Stage West’s theater provides an extra challenge. “We have minimal backstage space,” he says. “So what goes on back there is kind of like the game Tetris – when something leaves, something else fills that space.”
