Tuesday Morning Roundup

by Stephen Becker 10 Aug 2010 7:51 AM

Today in the roundup: A video look at DCT’s season, Tarrant County College’s standout arts program and acting lessons from the best.

CTA TBD

A LOOK AHEAD: If you’ve got kids and haven’t looked into the Dallas Children’s Theater’s upcoming season, you’ve got two options. You can look at the lineup the old-fashioned way. Or you can check out the sweet new video above. DCT obviously has found a first-rate video editor.

TCC CRANKS OUT THE ARTISTS: A couple of deans at Tarrant County College are putting their money where their mouths are. Mike Matthews, dean of humanities at the Northwest Campus, and Gloria Mills, dean of science and math, pay for the school’s collection of student work. But they aren’t just being nice – the work is so good that occasionally they miss out on a piece because someone else has snapped it up. DFW.com profiles the TCC art program to find out how the school has become so successful at churning out top-notch painters.

HELP FROM THE BEST: D magazine named the Dallas Theater Center’s Sally Nystuen Vahle the best actress in Dallas in its Best of Big D issue. So what does she know about acting that the rest of us don’t? (Short answer: plenty.) The magazine sent a couple of interns over to the Wyly for a quick acting lesson with Sally, the results of which can be seen in this video. Grab a pen and notebook first.
