Films from 10 countries will be included in the 2010 edition of the Asian Film Festival of Dallas. The includes 33 features and 21 shorts for the event, which runs July 23-29 at both the Magnolia and Angelika Film Center in Dallas.

“As always, we are proud of the wide range of films we have to offer to Dallas audiences,” said AFFD Executive Director Julie Hwang.  “We have worked hard to provide something for all ages.  From the

family-friendly SUMMER WARS and A TALE OF ULULU’S WONDERFUL FOREST, to more mature titles like NIGHT & FOG and AT THE END OF DAYBREAK, and everything in between. These are films that will be enjoyed by anyone looking for something great to watch this summer ” she said.

“And yes, the genre fans will be very pleased with selections like ROBOGEISHA, PHOBIA 2, BAY RONG (CLASH) and CHAW,” she said.

Hwang also offered that last year’s Audience Award winner, IP MAN, will be showing at the AFFD Kickoff Party at LaGrange in Deep Ellum, a few days before the much-anticipated sequel’s Centerpiece   Presentation. “It’s free and open to the public. We want everyone to come. It’s going to be huge,” she said.

NEW AFFD WEBSITE LAUNCHES TODAY

For the past nine years the AFFD has grown with each festival, and during that time, promotional and commerce tools have evolved at a staggering pace.  With AFFD fans clamoring for new details on the

organization’s Facebook and Twitter pages, the festival is also launching a special festival website at www.affd.org.

Developed in collaboration with local design company RD2, Inc. (http://rd2inc.com/), the website will be the best place to find out information about the festival and purchase tickets.

“It pays to be a fan,” said AFFD Senior Programmer Steve Norwood, who develops content for AFFD’s website, Facebook and Twitter feeds. “We often provide advance information, special offers and exclusive events to folks who follow us on the social networking sites,” he said.  “But the 2010 AFFD fest-site will be the place to go for all the details, trailers, all anyone could need,” he said. “Plus, it’s just a lot of fun to go and learn about new films,” he said.

SPECIAL EVENTS

With 33 films and 3 shorts programs, the AFFD offers much to film fans over the seven days of its festival.  But AFFD is offering more to audiences this year, both before the fest week begins, and during its run.

Thursday, July 15:  a co-presented screening of ISLAND ETUDE at the Dallas Museum of Art, as part of DMA’s COASTLINES: IMAGES OF LAND AND SEA Summer Movie Series (www.dma.org).  7:30pm, visit DMA website for ticket information.

Tuesday, July 27:  2010 AFFD Juried Award Winners announced at The Fish in West Village (www.fishhouston.com/dallas.asp).  Initial presentations of the Panasonic Avionics Award for Excellence in Asian Film.  5-7pm.  Free to the public.

Wednesday, July 28:  9500 LIBERTY screening at the Angelika Dallas, with director Eric Byler and community leaders in attendance to discuss the making of the film, and the impact of the immigration debate in the Dallas community.  7:30pm, visit www.affd.org for ticket information.
