CHILD’S PLAY: In June, Smile Smile is hitting the road with Bob Schneider for a weeklong tour of the Atlantic coast. Until then, Ryan and Jencey are keeping busy with … video-taped contests. They’ve posted the above video in which they see who can win the most tickets at Chuck E. Cheese with $5. Future contests are in the pipeline. They’re both frequent Twitterers, so hit them up there with suggestions for future battles.
MR. JONES: Last week, we directed you to Gaile Robinson’s review of Ben Jones’ Focus show at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth. If you saw the show and want to know more about the up-and-coming Jones, he recently spoke with FoA&S Dana Schultes for this week’s edition of the This Week in the Arts podcast. Interesting stuff in there about how he’s navigated the art world and plotted out his career.
QUOTABLE: “It can go one of three ways. One: It stays as is, and we keep making upward progress. Two: The album comes out and just completely flops. I mean, as good as we think we might be, who’s to say that anyone else thinks we’re great? The third way is that we’re the next Kings of Leon. If I had my pick, of course I’d pick that.”
– Nick Jay, bass player for Jonathan Tyler & the Northern Lights, speaking with the Dallas Observer about the band’s major-label debut, Pardon Me.
