AUSTIN – When I walked into J. Black’s on W. 6th Street on Saturday, I had to check my eyes to make sure I hadn’t somehow been transported to Hailey’s or some other Denton music venue – the place was full of North Texas musicians.
The reason for the local love-in was Spune‘s day party, which featured the Orbans, Seryn, Telegraph Canyon, Sarah Jaffee, Doug Burr and others. Also on hand were the guys from Pan-Ector, a Denton screening and design company. They were busy most of the day making T-shirts for listeners.
Each act played about 30 minutes – just enough time to give the non-North Texans in the house a taste of the scene. Telegraph Canyon drew the biggest crowd from the sets that I saw. Sounds like word is trickling south.
At some point on Monday, I’ll be on KXT talking about the week that was at SXSW. I’m not sure exactly when that will be just yet, but when I find out, I’ll update this post. On second thought, just tune in all day and listen for the guy who sounds like he’s been staying out ’til 2 a.m. for a week straight.
