AUSTIN – Yes, this really happened.
A DJing storm trooper is one of the weirder things I’ve seen this weekend (though I also saw a ninja handing out flyers). But his presence at The Highball Saturday night wasn’t out of place. The bar hosted the after party for The People Vs. George Lucas, a documentary that played at the Alamo Drafthouse next door. The film looks at the relationship between the Star Wars director and his fans since his career-defining movie came out more than 30 years ago.
Also milling about were Darth Vader and a Princess Leia clad in Jabba the Hut slave girl attire. But neither of them were as fun or talented as the storm trooper. In case you were wondering, storm troopers mainly like ’90s hip-hop mixed with the occasional New Wave track. But the place really went nuts when a dance verion of “The Imperial March” (a.k.a. Darth Vader’s theme song) hit the speakers. At least he took a little time out to enjoy the party, too:
