CTA TBD

filmanthropy.4Last Friday, our taping of Think TV got snowed out. Eventually, though, we hope to have Melina McKinnon, the founder-director of M3 Films and filManthropy back on the show to talk. We wanted to discuss Torey’s Distraction, the film that’s being screened tonight at the Angelika at Mockingbird at 7 p.m. after a party, and her entire method of blending filmmaking and advocacy, using the one to fund-raise for the other. Torey’s Distraction is an amazing, heartbreaking film — the trailer for it is here —  about three young girls born with Apert Syndrome, a rare genetic condition that causes severe craniofacial anomalies. One thing that makes the documentary so singular is that director Tisha Blood followed these girls practically from birth to their teens as they underwent hundreds of operations in Dallas. There’s a resulting richness, a sense of lives lived, and the courage and incredible good humor of Torey Harrah (and her parents) is tremendously moving.

Yes, we’ll have Melina McKinnon back some time.
