WEATHER CANCELLATIONS: Since pretty much every school district in the area is closed today, it’s a safe bet we’ll have a lot of arts-related cancellations today, too. The Amon Carter Museum and Dallas Museum of Art are closed today. The Greater Denton Arts Council will open at noon. If you know of other weather-related cancellations, please e-mail me ([email protected]) and I’ll update this post.
UPDATE: The Women’s Museum is closed today and will reopen Saturday at noon.
UPDATE: The Nouvelle Vague show scheduled for tonight at the Granada has been canceled due to flight problems.
MUSIC BITS: Classical guitarist Pepe Romero says he learned to play by mimicking his dad. (dfw.com) … With the NBA All-Star game in town this weekend, a spotlight will also shine on Dallas’ hip-hop scene. (dallasobserver.com) … Exit 380 singer Dustin Blocker talks about the fine art of building a concept album. (quickdfw.com)
HIDE AND SEEK: The last story today doesn’t have any North Texas ties, but it was too cool to pass up. Plus, I’m hoping it will inspire a local copycatter. The Chicago Tribune writes about a Chicago painter who was looking for a way to draw attention to his art. So he decided to give it away. But rather than just handing it out to anyone, he decided to hide his paintings around the city. After that, he tweets and texts hints to their location until someone discovers the piece. Pretty cool, huh? The gimmick has gained him about 700 followers through Facebook and Twitter, so it sounds like it’s working.
