PROGRAM CHANGE DUE TO CANCELLATION BY EMINENT FLUTIST SIR JAMES GALWAY

WHO: Dallas Symphony Orchestra

WHAT: Flutist Sir James Galway cancels his concerts with the DSO for medical reasons. Sensational 17-year-old violinist Caroline Goulding, whose highly acclaimed new CD was nominated for a Grammy, will perform a revised program with the DSO.

WHEN: March 18 – 20, 2010 at 8:00 p.m. and March 21, 2010 at 2:30 p.m.

MORE: At seventeen, violinist Caroline Goulding has already graced the stages with prestigious ensembles such as The Cleveland Orchestra, the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, the Buffalo Philharmonic, the Cincinnati Pops, the Cleveland Pops and the International Symphony Orchestra, to name a few.

Along with her avid appearances both as orchestral soloist and in recital, Caroline has adorned the small screen and national public airwaves. She has appeared on NBC’s “Today,” National Public Radio’s “From the Top,” PBS’s “From the Top: Live from Carnegie Hall,” Sirius Satellite Radio, WNYC New York, CosmoGirl Online and the “Martha Show,” hosted by Martha Stewart. Recently, Caroline was featured on Maestro Erich Kunzel’s last recording From the Top at the Pops.

August 2009 marked the international release of Ms. Goulding’s Grammy nominated debut recording on the Telarc label. Included in Billboard Classical’s Top 15, the recording recently received a Grammy nomination for “Best Solo Instrumentalist (without orchestra)” along with rave reviews from venerable names in the classical music industry.

Caroline began studying the violin at the age of three-and-a-half under the tutelage of Julia Kurtyka and continues her studies as a Starling scholarship recipient with renowned violin pedagogue Paul Kantor at the Cleveland Institute of Music. Caroline was awarded first prize in the 2009-2010 Young Concert Artists International Audition held in New York and is currently the youngest artist on their roster.

The Dallas Symphony Orchestra program with which Caroline will make her DSO debut will change slightly to include:

Bach: Suite No. 3

Mozart: Violin Concerto No. 4 K. 218

Mozart: Divertimento for Strings in B-flat, K. 137

Handel: Music for the Royal Fireworks

Nicholas McGegan remains the conductor.
