At the Dallas Voice, Arnold Wayne Jones reports that Dallas Theater Center performer Liz Mikel — whom we Q-and-A’d this week about her role in the new musical Get It Up! Give it up! — pretty much lost everything she owns when a fire hit her Lake Highlands condo complex on Greenville Avenue. Liz and her daughter Vershea managed to escape. Plans for a Saturday night benefit are being made. Anyone interested in offering their assistance, check out the message from the Mary Collins Agency that now appears with the full Q&A. A web community has been set up through Lotsa Helping Hands.

Also, Tuckers’ Blues is hosting fundraisers for Liz all weekend long, January 8-10. We mention this here because that’s Guy Reynolds’ photo of Liz performing at Tucker’s.

Oh that’s terrible. Glad they got out safe, though.

I’m very sorry for Liz Mikel and her daughter, and I’m glad they’re safe.

Fyi, the name of the play is “Give It Up!,” not “Get It Up!” Either might be appropriate, given that it’s a re-working of Lysistrata. But “Give It Up!” seems a bit more nuanced, don’t you think?

I am so glad to hear that both Liz and her daughter are safe and I wish them all the best in this tough time. I know from personal experience how much work it is to recover from a house fire. I’m off to purchase a Target gift card…

So sorry as well, but was happy seeing the news coverage last night of her fundraiser at Tucker Blues which I sadly missed. Saw her there in December and was absolutely impressed. Hang in there……..
