The Challenge: La Reunion TX (LRTX) is an artist residency in the making that currently exists as a 35-acre urban forest engaged as studio and gallery space. Each winter we jury-select four to seven artists (or teams of artists) to create site-specific installations. In the past, to embrace La Reunion’s commitment to making the space sustainable, we inaugurated a program called Tree Carving in which we transformed dead or dying trees into decomposing sculptures. The program was such a success that for 2010 we have decided to expand the vision that led to Tree Carving and focus on installation work made from found and natural materials. The La Reunion TX Artist Selection Committee, made up of Dallas area arts professionals, will jury the applications.
The Caveat: There is no electricity available at La Reunion TX so you must use hand tools or self powered tools ie: axes, chisels, chainsaws or gas powered generators. Consistent with our sustainability mission, we encourage you to use elements from the surrounding area such as rocks, twigs, and branches. You may also bring your own raw materials but we are strongly encouraging a green/environmental consciousness.
