KEYS TO VICTORY: ChooHooi Khoo, a physical therapist from Bakersfield, Calif., has won the Cliburn’s second YouTube Contest for Amateur Pianists. She beat out 57 other entries in the over-35 age bracket with her performance of Schubert Impromptu, Op. 90, No. 4. Even more impressive – she only decided to enter two weeks before the deadline.

HISTORY IN THE MAKING: You may have read guest blogger Tina Augilar’s posts this week on the Art&Seek blog about Cara Mia Theatre Company’s Crystal City 1969. The play looks back at the Hispanic student walkout that sparked civil rights changes in the Texas town 40 years ago. And the one review I could find this morning is overwhelmingly positive. Lawson Taitte calls the show “maybe the best original script premiered in Dallas this year,” in his dallasnews.com review.

MUSIC BITS: Dallas electro hip-hop duo Damaged Good$ is helping people out through good music and good deeds. (quickdfw.com) … Fort Worth was once home to one of the top jazz fusion acts going, Aurora. But these days, you’d be lucky to find anyone playing that style. Fort Worthy Weekly‘s Anthony Mariani looks into the scene (or lack there of). (fwweekly.com) … Daniel Folmer of the Paper Chase is the guest performer on DC9 at Night’s new video series, DC9 Live at El Sibil (DC 9 at Night).
