Arts consultant and founder of an international artists management firm, Janice L. Mayer was made the Van Cliburn’s director of artistic planning and communication on Tuesday. Her duties will include overseeing the piano competition’s winners, promoting the concert series and coordinating marketing and PR for the Cliburn Foundation. Got all that?

Mayer’s new position effectively replaces both Sevan Melikyan, the former director of PR, and his wife, foundation general manager Maria Guralnick, both of whom left earlier this year.

  • That was my first thought after reading the press release when I got it yesterday–that she was going to try to do both their jobs. I expect she will be working some long hours.
