DIY is not new to the Dallas Museum of Art. Over the past few years, public programs, including workshops and artists’ demonstrations, have been held at the DMA. It was only a matter of time before DIY programs appeared on the regular schedule.  Tracy Bays-Boothe, Director of Public Programs and Multimedia Services, says, “Past programs, including workshops and artist demonstrations with the founders of ReadyMade Magazine and members of the Dallas Craft Mafia, have been some of our favorite projects at the Museum in recent years. We wanted to create a fun new twist on traditional studio programs offered at most museums as well as celebrate our dynamic collections and partnerships with area artists.”

DIY@DMA is a new, FREE program for adult audiences. This hands-on creative workshop will kick off Thursday, August 20 and includes discussion of works featured at the museum and a different DIY project led by local artists each month. This month’s program will be led by artist Lesli Robertson and inspired by the special exhibition Private Universes. Participants will create an assemblage DIY project that represents their personality using natural, found and reused materials. You’re encouraged to bring personal items that you would like to manipulate and include, such as old T-shirts, photographs, concert tickets, accessories, books, etc.

Participants will meet in the Center for Creative Connections at 6:30 p.m.
