“They’re NOT the opening act?!”

This was the phrase I heard over and over on the day leading into the night that Heartless Bastards played the Granada. This band was introduced to me by the fab Gini Mascorro, who plans to play a track from the band’s latest release, The Mountain, when she subs for Paul Slavens this Sunday on 90.1 At Night. Many people, including myself, came for the opening act and left for pizza after the set ended after only about eight songs. No disrepect to Jenny Lewis – we are probably related – but I did not want to break the buzz induced by some live Heartless Bastards mixed with two Bud Lights. The Granada is happiness.

I’m so happy you got to see ’em! Yay! Thank you so much for posting this, Betsy. Remember the day we heard the review of ‘The Mountain’ on Fresh Air and how both of us were immediately smitten?! All three of their albums are splendiferous, but a girl never forgets her first, and mine was ‘The Mountain.’ I can’t wait to see them do their thang live, hopefully next time as the headline act.
