The Pulitzer Prize is “Ruined”

Ruined, Lynn Nottage’s drama about the civil war raging in the Congo as witnessed by the women in a brothel, is the winner of the 2009 Pulitzer Prize for drama. It’s currently playing  at the Manhattan Theatre Club through May 10. It premiered at Chicago’s Goodman Theater.

The other Pulitzer finalists were Becky Shaw, by Gina Gionfriddo, a dark comedy about bad dates and attempted suicide, and the musical, In the Heights, by Lin-Manuel Miranda and Quiara Alegría Hude, which won the Tony Award for best musical.  A documentary about the making of In the Heights — Chasing Broadway Dreams will be telecast on KERA May 27 as part of the Great Performances series.

The award includes a $10,000 prize.
