martinraynerThe latest Arts section of the Sunday New York Times would look familiar to anyone familiar with the Dallas Theater Center. First, the drama, The Good Negro, which the Theater Center premiered last October, gets a feature story by Mark Blankenship — the play begins previews Tuesday at the Public Theater in Manhattan. J. Bernard Calloway, who played the Ralph Abernathy figure named Henry at the Theater Center, also appears in a photo accompanying the article.

But second, the truly eagle-eyed may have noticed a familiar face in the Arts section’s Week Ahead listings. (Unfortunately, the photo doesn’t appear online.) Former Theater Center company member Martin Rayner (above) is appearing in Irish playwright Frank McGuiness’ new drama, Gates of Gold, about the establishment of Dublin’s Gate Theater by a gay couple, Hilton Edwards and Micheal MacLiammoir. The play gets its American debut at the 59E59 Theater. Rayner may be best known to TV watchers as Dr. Chaotica — Ruler of the Cosmos! — from the series, Star Trek: Voyager.
