TWO JOIN TEXAS DANCE THEATRE: A pair of new dancers has joined Texas Dance Theatre. Fort Worth native Tyler Patterson is a student at the University of North Texas. He’s previously performed with Casa Manana. Also joining the group is Lauren Collier from Oklahoma City. Patterson and Collier join the group in time for its next performance on April 17.
MUSIC NOTES IN QUICK: Quick catches up with country-folk band Bosque Brown for its latest issue. The band is fronted by Stephenville native Mara Lee Miller and includes Denton musicians Jeremy Buller and Winston Chapman. You can get a good sense of a band by asking its members who their favorite artists are, which is what Quick did. So who would Miller pick to record a covers album of?
“Well, if it were going to be a whole album, I guess I would have to say Townes Van Zandt. He has a lot of songs that I love and can identify with,” Miller says.
Hunter Hauk also checks in on Denton duo Mom, which it seems has doubled in size and now goes by the name Sleep Whale. He sees after seeing the new lineup, he’s torn as to which incarnation he prefers.
WASHINGTON, VIA FORT WORTH: The Smithsonian’s Hirshhorn Sculpture Garden has named Richard Koshalek as its new director. If that name sounds familiar, it might be because Koshalek served as the director of the Fort Worth Art Museum (which later became the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth) from 1974-76.
