DANCE, DANCE: Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, one of America’s premiere companies, is in the midst of a two-night stand at Bass Hall. To preview the shows, DFW.com caught up with AA’s longtime artistic director, Judith Jamison, who says that the performances will remind viewers of their last visit to Six Flags.

“It will be a bit like being on a dance and music roller-coaster ride for the audiences,” Jamison says.

That’s a pretty bold claim. So did she deliver?

Heck yes, says Punch Shaw, reviewing for Guidelive.com. The company was founded 50 years ago this year by Texan Alvin Ailey, and Shaw says it shows no signs of slowing down.

“The closing work, 1960’s Revelations, is such a classic that the crowd of better than 1,600 applauded certain iconic poses the dancers struck. It made for a splendid and joyous conclusion to a near-perfect night of dance.”

If you went last night and are considering a dance double-header, there will be plenty of new material: Revelations is the only piece that will be repeated in tonight’s show.
