Winning design of Make Space for Artists: Design a Studio
The ideal plan of a 16-square-foot artist’s space was revealed Friday night in the Center for Creative Connections as the Make Space for Artists: Design a Studio competition ended. And the winner is … duo Amy Wynne and Mark Leveno, who are no strangers to winning Texas design competitions. Chosen by jurors Mara Salas of Corgan MediaLab, artist and conservator Brad Ford Smith and Make Space for Art winner Bang Dang, the final results were:
1st Place: Amy Wynne and Mark Leveno
2nd Place: Simon Chen
3rd Place: Eryka Bueno-Zavala
Honorable Mentions: Anna Ishii Araceli Alamo and R. Lee Miller
After the announcement of the winning entries by Sarah Jane Semrad of La Reunion TX and the Dallas Museum of Art‘s Nicole Stutzman, each juror briefly addressed the strengths and limitations of the winning submissions. The competition had 45 entries, including submissions from Philadelphia, Austin and Dallas’ Skyline High School, which devotes an academic “cluster” to the study of architecture (3rd Place finisher Eryka Bueno-Zavala and Honorable Mention Araceli Alamo are current students).
The competition began in November and hosted a series of related programs over the past three months, including panels, workshops and a Google SketchUp clinic taught by juror Mara Salas.
Visit the Make Space for Artists Flickr page to see the complete body of submissions. That Flickr page is a nice work of art in itself.
