DEALS ALL AROUND: If you’re looking for a bargain arts experience, there are plenty to be had. Just in the last few days I’ve received a slew of offers in the ol’ inbox. Some of the highlights:

Circle Theatre announced its 2009 season on Wednesday. As part of the announcement, Circle says that anyone who purchases a regular season ticket by March 21 will receive a $10 discount off each season ticket.

Dallas Hub Theater is starting a new program called Thrifty Thursdays. Each Thursday will be a pay-what-you-can donation night. In order to take advantage of the deal, you have to make a reservation through the theater directly by calling 214.749.7010.

Dallas Theater Center is discounting some more tickets to In the Beginning. For tonight’s performance and the matinee on Saturday, you can purchase a pair of tickets for $30. You can buy the tickets online here (be sure to enter the promo code GENESIS).

The Dallas Museum of Art and the Crow Collection of Asian Art will co-host a Late Night celebrating “Divine Kingship and Royalty” around the world on Friday. In addition to a night of music, lectures, tours and children’s activities at both locations, all for $10, visitors can view the King Tut show for 25 percent off the normal ticket price from 6-10:30 p.m. Friday. The special Tut discount, which brings the price to $24 (originally $32.50), will be available to purchase at the Tut box office only.

QUOTABLE: “My natural inclination creatively is to be in a vegetative state, playing three pieces to death. So doing the classical thing forces me to practice and be constantly on my musical guard.” – Branford Marsalis, in a Dallas Morning News preview of his appearance with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra beginning tonight.

LOCAL MUSIC NOTES: Preston Jones over at DFW.com has the goods on what’s happening in local music. He caught up with Fort Worth band Green River Ordinance about recording its major-label debut, which comes out Tuesday. There’s lots of other good nuggets there, too.

Update: I would be remiss if I didn’t point out that GRO is also on the cover of this week’s Quick. Good to see that they are getting plenty of local attention.

  • We have three theaters trying different options alone. Why not work together?

  • Well, for starters, they’re located in three different areas. Circle Theater is in Fort Worth, the other two are in Dallas, one of them in Deep Ellum, and I suspect there’s relatively little overlap in their audiences. But if there is some overlap, Circle is trying to make its new season subscription more attractive — in fact, it has been undergoing renovations, so it doesn’t have a show up currently — while the Dallas Theater Center is in the middle of its current season, and in the middle of the run of a single show that’s been extended, so the DTC has more seats to offer but just for this show. Meanwhile, Dallas Hub Theater doesn’t really have a season subscription to offer, so they find the cheap-Thursday expedient a simpler, more attractive way to sell individual tickets to whatever show will happen to be onstage.

    In short, the audience/geography/ticket/season/performance situations are extremely different.
