A GOOD CAUSE: More than 160 orchestras across the country are partnering in food drives next month as part of a promotion for the movie The Soloist, the AP reports. Among the participating groups are the Allen Philharmonic Orchestra and Symphony Chorus, Dallas Symphony Orchestra, East Texas Symphony Orchestra, Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra, Plano Symphony Orchestra and Youth Orchestra of Greater Fort Worth.

The Soloist is based on the true story of a schizophrenic cellist (Tyler’s Jamie Foxx) who is befriended by a Los Angeles Times columnist (Robert Downey Jr.). It was originally slated for an Oscar-friendly November release but was bumped to April 24. That’s not normally a good sign, but until I hear otherwise I’ll give a movie starring these two guys the benefit of the doubt.

JAZZY TIMES: Were you left out of last Saturday’s sold-out jazz show at the newly renovated Bishop Arts Theater Center? Teresa Coleman Wash, executive artistic director of TeCo Theatrical Productions, which calls the center home, sends along these pictures from the concert. Alex Bugnon, Keith Anderson and Joe McBride were the night’s performers. The jazz series continues on March 21 with Marion Meadows and Nick Colionne.
