Arts&Letters Live kicks off tonight with author Stephanie Kallos. Her first novel, Broken for You, was a bestseller and a pick for the Today Show Book Club. I’m swept up by the finely drawn characters living in a small Nebraska town in her latest, Sing Them Home. Three siblings – a professor, a TV weatherman and the town eccentric – haven’t moved on from their mother’s long-ago freak disappearance and presumed death.  The dead are always present in this story, which, nonetheless, is full of magic and charm.   And the town of Emlyn Springs sure knows how to throw a funeral: they serenade each dearly departed around the clock for a week. Extra bonus: Read it and you will also learn the concept of “grief bacon.”
