Composer John Adams says that he is on a security watch list and accuses the government of harassing cultural figures. Adams has written controversial operas, including “Nixon in China” and “The Death of Klinghoffer.” His opera “Doctor Atomic” recently opened at the Metropolitan Opera in a new production. All deal with actual events of modern times. Adams told the BBC in London that he believes “The Death of Klinghoffer,” which is concerned with a terrorist hijacking, is the source of the government’s actions, which he says includes taking away his ID and questioning him at airport checkpoints.
